Childcare First Aid Recertification

This certificated course is designed to motivate and recertify a person to be the First Aid personnel capable of providing immediate first aid assistance in any situation. Attendees are trained to a high standard of patient care with both instructor and peer assessment throughout the course. More than 50% of the course is practical so that attendees gain competency with the various First Aid techniques.

Specific topics covered include:

  • Scene assessment & management
  • Safety & Barriers
  • Rescue Breathing
  • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation
  • Wounds, bleeding and shock
  • Choking manoeuvres
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Updates on burns, poisoning, allergies, fractures etc

NZQA Credits

The Unit Standards associated with this course are:

  • 6400 - Manage first aid in emergency situations (level 3, 2 credits)
  • 6401 - Provide first aid (level 2, 1 credit)
  • 6402 - Provide resuscitation level 2 (level 1, 1 credit)

Who should attend

Persons over the age of sixteen who are to be appointed as the designated First Aid personnel to children. Attendees must have already acquired a workplace / childcare first aid certificate which is about to expire or has expired within the last 2-3 months.
