The Floor Warden

This certified course is designed to introduce the trainee to the duties and responsibilities of a Floor Warden and to provide the necessary knowledge to perform those duties. This course also assists management in meeting their statutory obligations in respect of fire safety training and addressing their general duty of care. Attendees are trained to a high standard of learning with both instructor and peer assessments throughout the course. The trainees are trained / assessed in the type of emergency most likely to be experienced in their own building, this enables attendees to gain the confidence and competency to use the techniques taught throughout the course.

Specific topics covered include:

  • Floor warden duties and responsibilities
  • Emergency priorities / Systems / Procedures
  • An Evacuation Scheme
  • Roles and responsibilities of various attending emergency services and agencies

NZQA Credits:

The Unit Standards associated with this course are:

  • 3271 - Suppress fire with hand extinguishers and fixed hose reels (level 2, 1 credit)
  • 16799 - Perform the duties of a workplace emergency warden (level 3, 4 credits)

Please note that MediTrain is applying for accreditation to teach these Unit Standards and its application has yet to be considered by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority.

Who should attend:

Persons who have leadership qualities and have sound decision-making skills. Attendees should also have the necessary ‘air-of-authority’ to direct occupants and be able to remain calm under pressure.
