This specialised course is designed for health professionals who may need to manage the early stages of a cardiac arrest or medical emergency in a clinical setting. Whether you're an oral health practitioner, vaccinator, pharmacist, nurse, or midwife, this training ensures you're equipped to act quickly, safely, and confidently.

Previously referred to as "Level 4" training, this course meets the recommended emergency care standards set by professional associations. In fact, it directly aligns with the Dental Council of New Zealand’s Medical Emergencies Practice Standard, which outlines the emergency training requirements for all registered oral health practitioners. This course includes practical training in:

  • Basic and Advanced Life Support (DRSABCD, ANZCOR)
  • CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • Choking management techniques
  • Use of Bag Valve Mask (BVM) and mouth-to-mask ventilation
  • Insertion and use of Oropharyngeal (OPA) and I-Gel Supraglottic airways
  • Administration of intramuscular adrenaline
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Application of the ANZCOR Basic Life Support Flowchart (DRSABCD)
  • Optional: Oxygen administration and suction (available on request)

The course content can be tailored to your workplace requirements.

    Every participant receives a 62-page course manual covering topics such as:

    • Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support
    • Teamwork and communication during emergencies
    • Oxygen administration and post-resuscitation care
    • Use of airway adjuncts and emergency medications

    Successful completion earns you a First Aid certificate valid for 2 years. We recommend refreshing this training every two years to stay compliant and confident.

    It is a prerequisite requirement for this course that students hold a current first aid certificate or equivalent.

    This course is suitable for health professionals who need to maintain emergency preparedness in clinical practice.

    This is a non-unit standard course, designed to meet industry standards for health professionals without NZQA assessment.
    It is recognised by regulatory and professional bodies, including the Dental Council of New Zealand.

    We run this course monthly at our Onehunga Head Office, with the option to organise onsite sessions for groups or clinics.
