This advanced half-day first aid course is for any health professional who needs instruction in advanced life support. It is designed specifically for health professionals such as oral health practitioners, vaccinators and pharmacists and is highly recommended by professional associations.
For example, oral health practitioners need to have appropriate skills, training and equipment available to deal with potentially life-threatening conditions. The Medical Emergencies Practice Standard (Aug 2021) issued by the Dental Council sets out the standards for medical emergencies in dental practice that all registered oral health practitioners must meet. MediTrain is an approved provider for the Dental Council.
All students receive a 62-page Life Support for Health Professionals manual which includes chapters on Basic Life Support, Teamwork & Communication, Advanced Life Support, Oxygen Administration, Pre-and-Post resuscitation care and Drugs.
It will give you a First Aid certificate that is valid for 2 years. You should recertify this course every 2 years.

Prerequisites
A working knowledge of first aid is highly recommended.

This advanced first aid class includes the following topics:
- Specific workplace risks
- Application of ANZCOR Basic Life Support Flowchart - DRSABCD
- Adult, Child and Infant CPR and Choking
- One- and two-person Bag Valve Mask (BVM) ventilation and mouth-to-mask technique
- Use of Oropharyngeal (OPA) and I-Gel Supraglottic airways
- Knowledge and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
- Administration of intramuscular adrenaline
The course can be tailored to suit your specific requirements, such as the addition of Oxygen administration and Suction.
