What if it happened in your chair?

You’re halfway through a routine appointment - maybe a dental check-up, or a vaccination - and suddenly your patient looks pale. Their eyes roll back. They’re not responding. It’s not a daily occurrence, but it does happen. And when it does, you become the first responder.

That’s exactly why MediTrain’s Life Support for Health Professionals course exists. It’s designed for people just like you, oral health practitioners, pharmacists, vaccinators, and other clinical professionals—who may one day face a medical emergency in the course of everyday work.

This course isn’t about box-ticking. It’s about being prepared to act quickly, calmly, and effectively when something goes wrong.

Why this training matters more than ever

As a health professional, you already carry responsibility for your patients’ wellbeing. But what happens when a patient has a reaction, a sudden cardiac arrest, or an airway obstruction while in your care?

Medical emergencies can be unpredictable, and while they’re not common, the stakes are high. In those moments, knowing exactly what to do—and having the muscle memory to do it—is what makes the difference.

This course is designed to build that kind of readiness. You won’t just learn skills—you’ll practise them in real-world scenarios, so that when a crisis happens, you’re not hesitating or guessing. You’re acting.

Who is this course for?

We specifically run the Life Support for Health Professionals course for:

  • Oral health practitioners

If you work with patients, even in a non-hospital setting, and you’re responsible for their care during a procedure or interaction—this training is for you.

It’s more than a requirement—it’s peace of mind

The Dental Council of New Zealand requires all oral health practitioners to complete resuscitation training every two years. MediTrain is an approved provider for the Dental Council, and this course meets that standard, giving you confidence that you're fulfilling professional obligations. But more than that—it gives you the ability to stay calm under pressure and provide life-saving support when your patient needs it most.

You’ll leave the course feeling confident, capable, and clear-headed about what to do in an emergency. And that confidence doesn’t just help your patients—it helps your team and your workplace feel safer too.
